Already a trusted supplier to the company, when Wing Yip were looking to undertake a wholesale refurbishment of their flagship site and headquarters in Birmingham they had no hesitation whatsoever in calling accredited Warrington electrical contractors PME Projects to work alongside their main contractor.
A family business widely recognised as the UK's leading Chinese and Oriental supplier, Wing Yip has four superstores (in Birmingham, Manchester, Croydon and Cricklewood) and a national distribution network supplying the majority of Chinese restaurants and takeaways throughout the country.
Having already undertaken retail electrical services works on the Manchester store during its initial build, rewiring work on the Cricklewood store during an extensive revamp and installed monitored PDU (power distribution units) all server cabinets across all sites PME electricians were fully aware of the high and exacting requirements of the Client from its contractors.
Working hand-in-hand with the main contractor over a five-month period, the project was split into a number of key stages in order to enable the busy superstore and warehouse to remain in operation.
A complicated industrial electrical services project without doubt, and one which needed carefully scheduling, managing and a harmonious tripartite working relationship between the Client, the main contractor and PME to ensure minimal disruption to Wing Yip's customers and staff.
"As the main contractors work progressed our industrial electrician teams of NICEIC accredited electrical engineers were on hand, night and day, to move servers, cabling, containment and other essential equipment from their existing to new temporary positions whilst further works were undertaken.
Moving the equipment from location to location, first temporary and then permanent, and ensuring it continued to deliver 100% uptime was critical to the success of the project and to enable Wing Yip to continue trading."
PME electricians role in the site-wide project focused mainly on data and communications, with around 60% of the work taking place throughout the night, and some overspill power work from the main contractor from time to time.
Whilst the actual schedule of works over the five-months covers pages and pages, the salient works we completed, in addition to the temporary removal and reinstallation, were:
Tony Ritson, Group Information Technology Manager, at Wing Yip commented:
"The relationship between PME electricians and Wing Yip has grown to such an extent that Wing Yip now heavily rely on PME electricians for not only supplying and maintaining data and power or all our stores throughout the UK, but also their knowledge and expertise in making recommendations for the business to improve efficiency, workflow and business continuity. "
Paul Moore, Director of PME Electricians, added:
"We have worked with Wing Yip for 10 years, both directly and through main contractors. Our relationship continues to go from strength to strength based on our ability to meet, and often exceed, their stringent requirements.
The project at Wing Yip's flagship Birmingham superstore is another fine example of PME electricians excellent time and budget management in a complex, multi-dimensional development. Bring on the next one."
